![]() Saruman bred them in the deep pits of Orthanc. which lends extra credence to the one plausible non-supernatural theory i have seen about the DD, that it was a hairless and earless opossum. The orcs of Isengard were some of the most menacing and formidable foes in all of Middle-earth. The thought also struck me that, if you took the creature's ears off, it (especially the head) bears quite a close resemblance to the Dover Demon. it projects the same kind of "I'm skinny and hairless and pathetic, please feel sorry for me", but at the same time just a hint of "i'm actually quite nasty and creepy and just might kill you" vibe. I am completely obsessed with the Lord of the Rings/the Hobbit being from New Zealand and all it is/was my childhood. ![]() So of course I couldnt resist creating a LOTR themed quiz. Some look at hairless cats and immediately think of woodland fairy creatures or mythological beings. ![]() Rather randomly, it kind of reminds me of Peter Jackson's version of Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. I am completely obsessed with the Lord of the Rings/the Hobbit being from New Zealand and all it is/was my childhood. Hairless Cat Names Based on Mythical Creatures. Gandalf, as a demi-god-like being, would be alive and likely observing the hobbits during the events of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. The picture looks almost too good to be taken by an amateur to me, unless the creature, whatever it was, was really tame. Someone at said it bears a close resemblance to the "Sumatran rat-monkey" in the "Brain Dead" films (which i have not personally seen, so i cannot vouch for the comparison), other suggestions there included aardvark (IMHO the tail is too long and the snout not right) and obscure South American species of opossum called the "Yapok", as well as a normal opossum which has lost its hair somehow. Anyone have any idea about what this animal is, and whether the photo is real?
